Product Description
Single crystal silicon ingots are typically grown as large cylindrical ingots by precision doping and pulling techniques (Czochralski CZ, magnetic field induced Czochralski MCZ, and floating zone FZ). Czochralski is the most widely used method for growing large cylindrical silicon crystals up to 300 mm in diameter for manufacturing semiconductor devices in the electronics industry. The MCZ method is a variation of the Czochralski method in which the magnetic field is generated by electromagnets, which allows for relatively low oxygen concentrations, low impurity concentrations, low dislocations, and uniform resistivity variations. The FZ method is beneficial for achieving high resistivity above 1000 Ω-cm and high purity crystals with low oxygen content.




After the single crystal silicon ingot is fully grown and meets its resistivity, impurity content, crystal integrity, size and weight requirements, it is ground into a perfect cylinder with a suitable diameter using a diamond grinding wheel, and then an etching process is performed to eliminate the mechanical defects left by the grinding process. After that, the cylindrical ingot is cut into blocks of a certain length and notched and processed once or twice by an automated wafer handling system for alignment, thereby determining the crystal orientation and conductivity before the downstream wafer slicing process.
